Select time for The Groove
The names Jean Paul Maunick (Bluey) and Gilles Peterson are synonymous with the very best of British jazz and funk through projects such as Light Of The World, Incognito, and the Talkin' Loud and Brownswood record labels.
Now Bluey and Gilles have come together once again for a stunning project which relights the fire of the British jazz funk scene in a way almost no one else could. The project is named STR4TA, and the debut album "Aspects" is out now. The project came from an improvised session recorded in a shed in London just before lockdown, with the finishing touches made remotely. Inspired by the gritty DIY sounds of the cult 80s Brit Funk era, STR4TA is about drawing out the imperfections to reveal the raw soul of the music, spurring listeners on to bear their heart and soul on the dancefloor.
The musicianship throughout the album is off the scale, and the authentic vocals of Bluey on several tracks adds a real magic to the sound of "Aspects". This album is a must have, and we can only hope - when circumstances allow - that they'll take this project out on the road, as this music needs to be heard LIVE!
